Growing boy!
Ace on April 18, 2008 - His first nap in his bed
Ace, April 18, 2009 - a wonderful 3-hour nap in his bed...check out the difference in his hair!!
At 12/13 Months, Ace can...Say:
bah, buh, booh (Balloon, ball, book, bath, binki, blankie - any word could be any of those sounds)
Mba-mba (mama)
Da-da (dada, believe it or not!)
Up-ah (up)
Ah-duh (all done)
nah-nah (night-night, aka, bottle and bedtime!)
ba-ba (bottle)
moh (more)
uh-pup (what's up!)
bah-puh (diaper)
bah-buh (baby)
Ah-buh (Abby)
He jabbers all the time and makes silly sounding words with his little tongue. He has really got some interesting stories for you, no doubt!
He has been responding to simple commands (such as, "give that to mommy," or, "throw the ball!") since January (10 months) at least, but has recently been able to follow commands/questions like,
"can you stir the pot?" (LOVES to "cook" with us)
"which one do you want" (he'll point with his finger...so cute!)
"go find your ball!"
In the past week and a half, Ace has been really impressing me...he was sock-less when I came into his room one morning, and I said, "did you take off your socks?," and as I was asking where his socks "went," he crawled to the back of his crib and pointed down...he had thrown them behind his crib! I was so impressed that he knew what I was talking about! He'll also do that when we ask him where his binki is, or where his diapers are, and he helped me find his shoes one day, too! I am always losing things, so it's nice to have someone around who knows what's going on! ;)
In the past few weeks, Ace has started pointing out body parts. The first one he learned was his hair...I've been able to get him to "brush his hair" when I ask since he was 10 months. He also points to/scrunches up and makes snorty sounds with his nose, points to or blinks his eyes, smacks his lips or points to his mouth, knows his feet, and sometimes his ears.
Ace took his first steps (two) sometime around Christmas (9 months), but didn't really take any more until late February/early March. He can walk, and he's pretty good at it, but he just hasn't gotten comfortable enough with walking yet for it to be faster than crawling. This guy's a man on the move. Always! He does think it's hilarious to fall backward or to fall toward us when we get him to walk. We take walks around our cul-de-sac most days, letting Ace push one of his walking toys. He walks really far before getting tired!
He has been playing ball with me since at least 9 months, and has gotten really good at throwing/rolling and catching. It's so much fun to see him progress!
Some of his favorite things these days are:
-reading books
-playing ball or with any of the many ball toys we have
-his blankie
-outside
-dogs
-eating
-spilling water
-baths
-making people laugh
-pulling all of his toys out
-climbing
-diving off our bed, couch, or the stairs (or, attempting to before we catch him)
-pushing his walking toys
-playing under tables
-playing in "his" cabinets
-"cooking"
-"helping" with the laundry
-giving kisses (to his mommy and daddy, please)
-morning milk and snuggles in our bed (I'm sure it's one of his faves)
-music
-"talking"
-yelling (he is so loud)
-his daddy
-his mommy
He's crazy about us, and we love it...he hates when either one of us even looks like we're heading out, and flips out when he hears the garage door, meaning we're home again!
He continues to amaze us with his zeal, curiosity, joy, and resiliance. He is tough. And so sweet...it shows up at the best times! He loves to make people laugh, as I've said before, but this week it's been fun seeing him laugh at himself. He has started this fake laugh and it's really hilarious to watch...and he scrunches his face up like he knows he's funny.
We got Ace a new, "big boy" car seat last week and put him forward facing, since the pediatrician wanted us to give him until about 13 months to get up to 20lbs. He's kind of gotten used to it, but he was really not so sure about watching the road at first. He looked pretty weirded out the first couple of trips. But he does sleep more soundly in this seat, and, more importantly, it feels so safe and sturdy. It's also really cushy for him.
Because of this ragamuffin look...
I gave Ace his first (much straighter than it looks) haircut this week!

wow, he has a lot of words. noah only says mama, dada and something that sounds like "done" and "nathan" :) we think it's funny that he says nathan. we aren't for sure it's nathan but it sure does sound like it!
