solid thoughts

We started solids right at four months with Ace, but with Axl I would have been content to strictly breastfeed until he left for college.  Seriously, though, he's much less developmentally aggressive(aka not as much of an over-achiever)as Ace was when he was itty bitty, so I wasn't in any rush to start doing anything that required more prep than whipping out a boob.  I decided to give it a shot this week...
sweet thing didn't know what torture awaited him.
what are you gonna do to me, mom?
ooo...what's this?!
hm...
bleck...you can have this back
wait, that tastes familiar...
 breast milk?!
what have you DONE to my breast milk?!
 I don't WANNA!
I'll show you...just wait for the first "solids" poop!
 no, really, ENOUGH!

Have you ever seen a baby cry when they tried solids?!  Poor thing...we were cracking up!  The next time I tried, he was blocking the spoon with a mean left jab and was just pathetic...so upset - like his feelings were hurt!  I really think he thought I was trying to wean him! ;)  Hah!  But today, I decided to give it one more shot and didn't have any liquid gold available, so I just mixed his rice cereal with water and a little bit of bananas...and it took about half an hour, but he finally started getting the hang of it, opening up when I brought the spoon to his mouth and all but gobbling it up.  Keep it up, big boy!  Hot dogs and popcorn are next!
